Rethinking the Romans I
This catalog, Rethinking the Romans, is a companion volume to the original catalog,
Classic Sculpture, by Brunilde S. Ridgway. It is a proposal for another way of organizing
the exhibition that is more related to the reality than bound to be an artifact fixed in time.
The idea runs counter to the usual practice of assembling carefully curated shows. This
catalog encourages the viewer to follow the lenses of the non-curatorial eye upon objects
that are stored away during the re-installation process.
The catalog is divided into two main categories–photographed objects and scans from
the original catalog–including captions and texts. The scanned objects serve as an index
to the original photographed objects, with reference to the original sculptures.
